Lyle Alzado Autographs
Lyle Alzado was an American football defensive end who played for 15 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on April 3, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, New York, where he started playing football seriously. Alzado then went on to enroll at Yankton College in South Dakota, where he played on the football team and earned All-American honors.
In 1971, Alzado was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. He spent five seasons with the Broncos and became known for his aggressive and physical style of play. In 1977, he signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he played for three seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles Raiders in 1982. It was with the Raiders that Alzado achieved his greatest success, helping them win Super Bowl XVIII in 1984. He retired from the NFL in 1986 after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor.
Alzado's football career was not without controversy. He admitted to using steroids throughout his career, which he believed contributed to his brain tumor. He also had a reputation for on-field altercations and personal behavior issues off the field. However, he is remembered for his fierce competitiveness and his dedication to the game of football. Alzado is considered one of the greatest defensive linemen in NFL history and was posthumously inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
