Lynn Swann is a former American football player who was born on March 7, 1952, in Alcoa, Tennessee. He was a wide receiver who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974 to 1982, during which time he became a crucial member of the team and helped them win four Super Bowl championships. Swann's football career began at the University of Southern California, where he played from 1970 to 1973. He was a unanimous All-American in 1973 and was also named the player of the game in the 1973 Rose Bowl, in which USC defeated Ohio State. After being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 1974 NFL Draft, Swann made an immediate impact as a rookie, helping the team win their first Super Bowl. He went on to be named to the Pro Bowl three times and was also named the Super Bowl MVP in 1976 after his outstanding performance helped the Steelers win their third championship.
In addition to his football career, Swann has been involved in various business ventures and has also pursued a career in politics. He was the Republican nominee for Governor of Pennsylvania in 2006 but was defeated in the election. Swann also served as the chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports from 2002 to 2005. However, it is his remarkable football career that remains Swann's most enduring legacy, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time.
