Marcus Davenport is an American football defensive end who currently plays for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). Born on September 4, 1996, in San Antonio, Texas, Davenport grew up playing football, basketball, and track in high school. He went on to attend the University of Texas San Antonio, where he played college football for four years. Despite suffering from a shoulder injury in his junior and senior year, Davenport still managed to impress scouts with his size, speed, and skill on the field.
Davenport was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the team and made his professional debut on September 9, 2018, in a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although he had a slow start to his rookie season, Davenport quickly proved his worth as a powerful and athletic defender. Throughout the 2018-2019 season, he recorded 22 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. In his second season, he played in 13 games, finishing with 31 tackles and six sacks. Despite missing several games due to injuries, Davenport's performance on the field impressed his coaches and teammates alike, earning him a reputation as one of the best young defenders in the NFL.
Off the field, Davenport is known for his charitable work, particularly his efforts to support childhood literacy.
