In 2006, Anderson was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. He made an impressive start to his professional career when he recorded 12 sacks in his rookie season and was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team. He continued to play for the Bears until 2010, earning a reputation as a skilled pass-rusher and a valuable asset to the team's defense. In 2011, Anderson signed with the New England Patriots and helped the team reach the Super Bowl in his first season with them.

Despite a successful start to his career, Anderson's performance began to decline after his move to the Bills in 2012. He struggled with injuries and was released by the team in 2013. Anderson retired from professional football in 2015 after eight seasons in the NFL, during which he recorded a total of 35 sacks, 164 combined tackles, and nine forced fumbles. Today, he is involved in philanthropy and has founded a non-profit organization, the Mark Anderson Youth Foundation, which supports youth education and empowerment programs in Alabama.
