May was drafted in the first round by the Washington Redskins in the 1981 NFL Draft. He played as an offensive tackle for the Redskins from 1981 to 1989. In 1982, May was an instrumental player in the Redskins' Super Bowl XVII victory, where they defeated the Miami Dolphins in a 27-17 victory. May was also named to the Pro Bowl in 1988, and he was a key contributor to the offense during his time in Washington. He was one of the best offensive linemen of his era, and his efforts were recognized by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee, who chose Mark May as a finalist for the Hall of Fame in 2008.

After leaving the Redskins, May played for the San Diego Chargers (1990-1992) and the Phoenix Cardinals (1993-1994). Unfortunately, his time with these teams was marked by injuries, which limited his playing time. Despite these obstacles, he remained passionate about his work, and after retiring from the NFL, he became an analyst for ESPN. Today he is a commentator for ESPN and an adjunct professor at his alma mater, the University of Pittsburgh. Read even more about Mark May at Wikipedia
