After high school, Marlin Briscoe attended the University of Nebraska, where he played quarterback and set several records. He was selected in the 14th round of the NFL draft in 1968 by the Denver Broncos. Despite his prior success playing squad and game, Briscoe was initially asked to switch positions when he joined the Broncos, as there had never been a black quarterback in the league before. However, due to injuries, he was eventually given the chance to start, and on October 6, 1968, he made history by becoming the first African American to start at quarterback in an NFL game.

Marlin Briscoe continued to play for the Broncos and later for several other teams, including the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and San Diego Chargers, throughout his football career. He was designated as an All-Pro receiver in 1970 and played in two Super Bowls. He retired in 1976 after eight seasons, and since then, Marlin Briscoe has served as a coach, commentator, and mentor to young football players. He is widely regarded as an inspiration to generations of black football players who followed his footsteps and broke barriers in the sport. Read even more about Marlin Briscoe at Wikipedia
