Matt Cassell Autograph
Matt Cassel is an American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons. Born on May 17, 1982, in Northridge, California, Cassel attended Chatsworth High School where he played as a quarterback in the school's football team. He then joined the University of Southern California (USC) and was a backup quarterback for much of his college career. Despite his limited playing time, Cassel impressed scouts with his athleticism, and in 2005, he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the NFL draft. More about Matt Cassell

Cassel spent his first three seasons with the Patriots as the backup to star quarterback Tom Brady. In 2008, when Brady suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the season, Cassel stepped in as the starting quarterback. He proved to be an able replacement, leading the Patriots to an 11-5 record and throwing for over 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns. The performance earned him his first Pro Bowl selection and established him as a viable starting quarterback in the NFL.
Cassel spent the rest of his career playing for various NFL teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, and Detroit Lions. While he never achieved the same level of success he had with the Patriots, Cassel remained a dependable backup quarterback and a mentor to younger players.
