Mel Blount was born on April 10, 1948, in Vidalia, Georgia. He attended Southern University, where he played college football as a defensive back. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 1970 NFL Draft, and he quickly established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Blount was a six-time Pro Bowl selection, a four-time First-Team All-Pro selection, and he was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1975. More about Mel Blount

After retiring from football in 1983, Blount established the Mel Blount Youth Home, a non-profit organization that provides residential and support services for at-risk youth in his hometown of Vidalia, Georgia. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history. Blount's impact on the game of football is still felt today, and his legacy as a dominant force on the field and a philanthropic leader off the field will be remembered for generations to come.
