Melvin Ingram is a professional American football player who currently plays as a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on April 26, 1989, in Rockingham, North Carolina, where he grew up playing high school football as a defensive end and running back. Ingram continued to excel in college football as he attended the University of South Carolina, where he played for the Gamecocks football team from 2007 to 2011.
Throughout his college career, Melvin Ingram was named First-team All-SEC and Second-team All-American in 2011. After an impressive performance in the 2012 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers selected him as the 18th overall pick in the first round. Ingram spent his first nine seasons with the Chargers, where he established himself as a dynamic, versatile player with a knack for getting to the quarterback. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2019, in addition to earning Second-team All-Pro honors in 2017.
In 2021, Melvin signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he hopes to continue his impressive legacy in the NFL. Over the course of his career, he has recorded 360 tackles, 49 sacks, and seven forced fumbles in 120 games played. Ingram is also known for his work off the field, including his support of various charities and his involvement in mentoring programs for young athletes.
