Mervyn Fernandez Autographs
Mervyn Fernandez is a former American football player, best known for his career with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Born to Jamaican parents in Vancouver, Canada, Fernadez started playing football in high school, and soon became a star wide receiver. He played college football at San Jose State University, where he set numerous records and was named an All-American in his senior year.
In 1983, Fernandez was selected by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys in the tenth round of the draft, but opted to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL) instead. He spent six seasons with the British Columbia Lions and established himself as one of the most dominant receivers in CFL history, recording over 10,000 receiving yards and earning four All-Star selections. In 1987, he returned to the NFL, signing with the Raiders where he played for six seasons before retiring in 1993. He finished his NFL career with 209 receptions for 3,764 yards and 19 touchdowns, and was selected to the Pro Bowl twice.
Fernandez's impressive football career earned him numerous accolades, including induction into both the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame. He remains a prominent figure in Canadian football history and is widely regarded as one of the greatest receivers in CFL history. His legacy in the NFL is also noteworthy, as he helped the Raiders win three straight AFC West titles and was a key player in their Super Bowl XXVIII run in 1992. Fernandez's contributions to the game of football have cemented his status as one of the most successful players to have come out of Canada.
