Michael Clayton is a former American football wide receiver who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants during his professional career. Born on October 13, 1982, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Clayton attended Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge, where he played high school football, starring as a quarterback and a wide receiver. His impressive performances earned him a scholarship to play for Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers, where he played college football from 2000-2003.
During his time at LSU, Clayton made an impressive impact as a wide receiver, catching a total of 182 passes for 2,582 yards and 21 touchdowns. His standout performances earned him First-team All-SEC honors in 2002 and 2003 and eventually led him to be drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. Clayton's first season with the Buccaneers was remarkable, as he caught an outstanding 80 passes for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns, setting a franchise record for the most receptions by a rookie.
After five seasons with the Buccaneers, Clayton joined the New York Giants in 2010, but his tenure with the team was short-lived, as he was later released in November of the same year due to an injury. Today, Clayton is retired from the football field but remains an iconic figure for fans of the game.
