Edwards played as a shortstop on the school's baseball team and earned numerous accolades, including being named to the All-Pacific League team and being selected as the Pacific League's Player of the Year in 1989.
After graduating from high school, Edwards was drafted by the California Angels in the third round of the 1989 Major League Baseball draft. He spent several years playing in the minor leagues before making his major league debut with the Angels in 1993. Edwards played for several teams throughout his career, including the Anaheim Angels, the Kansas City Royals, and the San Diego Padres. He primarily played as a utility infielder and was known for his versatility and strong defensive skills.
Despite his defensive prowess, Edwards struggled at the plate during his major league career. He retired from professional baseball in 2002, finishing his career with a .223 batting average, 18 home runs, and 98 RBIs. After retiring from baseball, Edwards worked as a coach and scout for various teams, including the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays.
