Mike Martz was born on May 13, 1951, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. From an early age, he had a deep passion for American football, which would ultimately lead him to have a successful career in the sport. After high school, Mike attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he joined the football team as a backup quarterback. He later transferred to San Diego State University, where he played as a starting quarterback for two seasons.
