Mike Nolan Autograph

Mike Nolan is an American football coach born on March 7, 1959, in Baltimore, Maryland. Nolan was the son of former NFL coach Dick Nolan, who was also a player with the New York Giants. He grew up around football and was deeply influenced by his father's coaching career. After college, Nolan started his coaching career at Stanford University in 1982 as a special teams coach. He later became the linebackers coach and defensive coordinator for Duke University, Rice University, and Louisiana State University. In 1993, Nolan was hired as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, where he led the team to win Super Bowl XXVII in 1994. In 1995, he joined the Denver Broncos as the defensive coordinator, where he worked with head coach Mike Shanahan to help the team win two Super Bowl titles in 1997 and 1998. After his success with the Broncos, Nolan was hired as the head coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2005, where he led the team to a 4-12 record in his first season. He was fired in 2008 after a disappointing start to the season.

Nolan continued his coaching career with various teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, and New Orleans Saints. He had his greatest success with the Falcons, where he served as the defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2014, helping the team to win the NFC title in 2012. Nolan's defensive schemes have been praised for their versatility and effective use of blitzing tactics.
