Mike Pyle Autographs
Mike Pyle was an accomplished American football player who played for four seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Born on June 18, 1939, in Dupo, Illinois, Pyle began his football journey with the University of Illinois. At the university, he played as a center, helping the team win two Big Ten Conference titles and reach two Rose Bowls. He was an All-American selection in 1960 and was inducted into the University of Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.
Following his college career, Pyle was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Bears in 1961. He played for the Bears until 1969, serving as the team's starting center for the majority of his tenure. He earned recognition for his skills as a blocker and a game manager, receiving All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 1963 and 1964. Pyle also played a crucial role in the Bears' 14-10 victory over the New York Giants in the 1963 NFL Championship Game. In 1970, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys and played for a season before retiring from the NFL.
Pyle's contributions to American football were not limited to his playing career. He was a co-founder of the NFL Players Association and served as the organization's president from 1968 to 1970. Pyle continued to remain active in football after his retirement, serving as a broadcaster for CBS and NBC before returning to the University of Illinois as an assistant football coach. In recognition of his football achievements, Pyle was inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Pyle passed away on July 30, 2020.
