Mike Webster Autographs

Mike Webster was born on March 18, 1952, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. He was an American football player who played as a center for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974 to 1988 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 1989 and 1990. Throughout his career, he made eight Pro Bowl appearances and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
Webster played college football for the University of Wisconsin where he was a 2-time All-American in 1971 and 1972. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the 1974 NFL Draft. Webster soon established himself as one of the most dominant centers in the National Football League, being the anchor for the offensive line of the Steelers' teams that won four Super Bowls in a six-year span in the 1970s.
In the later years of his life, Mike Webster's American football career became the focus of his declining health. He suffered from chronic pain and memory loss, which was ultimately linked to the head trauma he experienced while playing football. He became a plaintiff in one of the first player lawsuits against the NFL, and his case was a catalyst for a widespread discussion of brain injuries in the sport. Webster passed away on September 24, 2002, at the age of 50, and his brain was later examined and diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by repeated head injuries. Webster's career as a football player brought him both success and ultimately tragedy, but his legacy endures as an important player in the history of American football.
