Ollie Matson Autographs

Ollie MatsonOllie Matson was a former American Football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) from 1952 to 1966. He was born on May 1, 1930, in Trinity, Texas, and raised in San Francisco, California. Matson attended George Washington High School, where he excelled in various sports. He was a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and track and field. He received a scholarship to attend the University of San Francisco, where he became an All-American running back.
Matson was a versatile player known for his speed, agility, and strength. He played for the Chicago Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions, and Philadelphia Eagles during his NFL career. He was drafted by the Cardinals as the third overall pick in the first round of the 1952 NFL Draft. He was also an Olympic athlete, winning two bronze medals in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics for his performances in the 400-meter dash and 4x400 relay.
Matson was a seven-time Pro Bowler and a three-time first-team All-Pro during his NFL career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1972, a recognition of his outstanding achievements as a running back, kick returner, and defensive back. Matson was an influential player and a trailblazer for African American athletes in football. He paved the way for many others to achieve success in the sport and beyond. He died in 2011 at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of excellence on the football field and beyond.
