Ozzie Newsome

Ozzie Newsome was born on March 16, 1956, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and is widely recognized as one of the greatest tight ends to ever play American Football. Newsome attended the University of Alabama, where he played football for the Crimson Tide under the legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. After graduating from college, Newsome was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 1978 NFL Draft. He quickly became a star player for the Browns and was known for his exceptional athleticism and receiving skills. Newsome played for the Browns for 13 seasons, helping the team reach the playoffs nine times and make it to the AFC Championship Game three times.

After retiring from playing, Newsome transitioned to a career in football management. He was hired by the Baltimore Ravens in 1996 as the team’s Vice President of Player Personnel and became the first black general manager in NFL history in 2002. Newsome went on to become one of the most successful executives in the league, helping the Ravens win two Super Bowl championships and selecting multiple Pro Bowl players.
