Pat Tillman Autograph

Pat Tillman was an extraordinary American football player. Born in 1976, he grew up in San Jose, California, where he attended Leland High School. In high school, Tillman was an impressive football player, earning All-League honors his junior and senior years. After graduating in 1994, he accepted a football scholarship to Arizona State University, where he played from 1994 to 1997. Tillman was a standout player at ASU, winning the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1997. He was also named to the All-Pac-10 team three times. More about Pat Tillman

In 1998, Tillman entered the NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round. He quickly became a fan favorite and a leader on the team, earning the starting safety position in his second season. Tillman played for the Cardinals for four seasons and was known for his tenacity and passion on the field. In 2002, after the September 11th terrorist attacks, he decided to give up his NFL career and enlist in the U.S. Army. Tillman served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was tragically killed in action in 2004. His decision to leave the NFL and serve his country has been a source of inspiration for many Americans.

Tillman's legacy lives on both on and off the field. In addition to his impressive football career, he is remembered for his selflessness and bravery as a soldier. In 2004, the Pat Tillman Foundation was established to honor his memory and provide educational scholarships to military veterans and their spouses. Tillman's story has been told in numerous books and documentaries, including Jon Krakauer's "Where Men Win Glory" and the 2019 documentary "The Tillman Story". He remains one of the most beloved and respected figures in American football and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve in the U.S. military.
