Pete Retzlaff Autographs
Pete Retzlaff was a professional American football player who played for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). Born on August 20, 1931, in Ellendale, North Dakota, Pete was initially a halfback and a wide receiver. He played for South Dakota State University, where he set several records in his college career, including the longest punt return and the most receiving yards. In 1953, he was drafted by the Detroit Lions but played for the Canadian Football League (CFL) team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, for one season before returning to the U.S.
In 1956, Retzlaff joined the Philadelphia Eagles and played as a tight end for the team for 11 seasons before retiring in 1966. He was a key member of the Eagles team that won the NFL Championship in 1960. In his career with the Eagles, Retzlaff made 452 receptions for 7,412 yards and 47 touchdowns. He was selected as an All-Pro three times and was voted to the Pro Bowl squad five times. He also holds several records, such as the Eagles' record for most receiving yards in a single game with 204 yards in 1965.
After his retirement, Pete Retzlaff continued his association with the Philadelphia Eagles as a scout, a front office executive, and later as the team's general manager for four years. He was inducted into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame in 1989 and the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame in 1991. He is also a member of the North Dakota and South Dakota Halls of Fame. Pete Retzlaff was a versatile player who left a lasting impact on the Philadelphia Eagles team and the NFL.
