Ray Childress Autographs
Ray Childress is a former American football defensive end who played for the Houston Oilers and the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL) from 1985 to 1996. Born on September 20, 1962, in Atlanta, Texas, Childress attended Texas A&M University, where he played college football from 1981 to 1984. He was a two-time consensus All-American and a unanimous first-team All-Southwest Conference selection in his junior and senior seasons. Childress was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010.
In the 1985 NFL Draft, the Houston Oilers selected Childress as the ninth overall pick. He spent ten seasons with the Oilers, where he was a five-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro. Childress was a feared pass rusher, finishing his career with 76.5 sacks, the second-most in Oilers/Tennessee Titans history. He was a cornerstone of the Oilers' defense during the late 1980s and early 1990s and helped lead them to four playoff appearances in five seasons from 1987 to 1991. Childress was also the team's defensive MVP twice, in 1987 and 1992.
Childress finished his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, playing for them in the 1996 season before retiring. He was a valuable addition to the Cowboys' defensive line, providing veteran leadership and helping anchor the team's run defense. After retiring, Childress became involved in commercial real estate and philanthropy, including founding the Ray Childress Foundation, which supports educational and community programs for children. In recognition of his contributions to football and his community, Childress was inducted into the Houston Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
