Ray Flaherty Autographs

Ray Flaherty was an American football player and coach. He was born on September 1, 1903, in Spokane, Washington. He played college football at Gonzaga University, where he was a standout end on the football team. Flaherty's football career started in 1926 when he signed with the New York Yankees of the American Football League (AFL).
In 1928, Flaherty joined the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL) and played for them until 1935. During his career with the Giants, he became one of the best receivers in the league. He was part of the 1930 and 1934 Giants teams that won the NFL Championship. As a receiver, Flaherty caught 154 passes for 3,050 yards and 28 touchdowns in his eight seasons. After retiring as a player, Flaherty became a head coach and had stints with the Boston Redskins and the Washington Redskins.
Flaherty's coaching career was equally impressive as his playing career. He coached the Boston Redskins from 1936-1942 and led them to the NFL Championship in 1937. In 1937, Flaherty also won the inaugural Joe F. Carr Trophy, which was awarded to the NFL Coach of the Year. Flaherty later coached the Washington Redskins from 1946-1952 and led them to the NFL Championship in 1946. He also won the second Joe F. Carr Trophy in 1947. Flaherty was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1976 for his outstanding contribution to American football as a player and coach.
