Ray Mickens Autographs
Ray Mickens was born on September 15, 1973, in Houston, Texas. He attended Kirkwood High School and later played college football at Texas A&M University. Mickens began his collegiate football career as a wide receiver, but his coaches converted him into a cornerback. As a senior, he led the Aggies in interceptions and was named All-Southwest Conference for two straight seasons.
In 1996, Mickens was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Jets for nine seasons, and during his time there, he became one of the team's top cornerbacks. Mickens also became known for being an exceptional punt returner. He led the NFL in punt return yards in 1998 and returned a punt for a touchdown in 2001. After his tenure with the Jets, Mickens went on to play for the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots, but injuries cut his time with those teams short. Overall, Mickens' career in the NFL lasted for 10 seasons, and he retired in 2006 with 16 interceptions and 10 forced fumbles.
Post-retirement, Mickens stayed close to the game by moving into coaching. He started at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School in Texas, coaching the defensive backs. Mickens later worked as a coach for the AAF's San Antonio Commanders and the XFL's Houston Roughnecks. Currently, Mickens is an assistant football coach at Katy High School in his hometown of Katy, Texas. Throughout his football career, Ray Mickens made a name for himself as one of the NFL's top cornerbacks and punt returners, and his passion for the game continues to fuel his work in coaching.
