Ray Rhodes Autographs
Ray Rhodes is an American former football player and coach, who played and coached at some of the highest levels of professional football in America. Rhodes was born in Mexia, Texas on October 20, 1950, and began his career as a football player at Mexia High School, where he played quarterback and defensive back. After high school, he went on to play football at Tulsa University, playing defensive back for four years.
After his college career, Rhodes was signed by the New York Giants in 1975 as an undrafted free agent. He played with the Giants for two years before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 1977. Rhodes played for the 49ers for six seasons, where he was recognized as one of the most dominant safeties in the NFL, earning trips to the Pro Bowl in 1982 and 1983. He finished his playing career with the Houston Oilers in 1985.
After retiring as a player, Rhodes quickly started his coaching career, with his first job coming as the secondary coach for the 49ers in 1986. He quickly rose through the ranks of coaching, becoming the defensive coordinator for the 49ers in 1992. From there he went on to serve as the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers in 1993 and 1994, helping lead the team to a Super Bowl victory in 1996. Rhodes went on to become the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks, leading each team to varying degrees of success. Rhodes' career in football spanned over 40 years, and he remains a respected and influential figure in the sport.
