Ricky Reynolds was a standout American football player most notably known for his time as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). Born on August 9, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, Reynolds played football for David W. Carter High School in Dallas before continuing his career at Washington State University. While at Washington State, Reynolds earned the nickname "Toast" after a year where opponents frequently burned him in coverage. However, his sophomore and junior years proved he was far from "toast" as he amassed eight interceptions and 26 passes defensed in those two seasons alone.
In 1987, Reynolds was selected in the second round (36th overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played for eight of his ten-year NFL career. During his time with the Buccaneers, Reynolds established himself as a consistent and reliable cornerback. From 1987 to 1994, Reynolds started in 107 games, intercepted 27 passes, and amassed 109 passes defensed. Reynolds' contributions helped lead the Buccaneers to the playoffs in 1991 and 1992, making him a fan favorite in Tampa Bay.
After two seasons with the New England Patriots, Ricky Reynolds retired from professional football in 1997. He left behind a strong legacy that included being named to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 25th Anniversary Team in 2011. In addition, Reynolds dedicated his post-playing career to coaching and mentoring youth football players in the Tampa Bay area. His contributions to the sport will not be forgotten, and his impact on young athletes will continue to shape football careers for years to come.
