Rodney Holman was a highly accomplished American football player, who was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1960. He played for four different teams during his NFL career spanning from 1982 to 1993, and has been named one of the greatest tight ends in Cincinnati Bengals history. Holman was drafted by the Bengals in the fourth round of the 1982 NFL Draft, where he became an instant sensation on the team. He was a reliable target for quarterbacks, and he could easily evade defenders with his quick feet and strong hands.
Holman's most successful season came in 1989, where he was named an All-Pro and Pro Bowler. He had over 700 receiving yards and five touchdowns that year, proving himself to be one of the best tight ends in the league. Holman's success with the Bengals led to a trade in 1992 to the Detroit Lions, where he played two more seasons before retiring. Over the course of his NFL career, Holman had over 365 receptions, more than 4,800 receiving yards, and 36 touchdowns, making him one of the most productive tight ends of his era.
In retirement, Holman has become an influential figure in his home community of Detroit, where he co-founded a mentoring program for at-risk youth. He is also active in the church and has been known to give motivational speeches to young athletes. Holman's career in American football put him on the map, but his contributions off the field continue to impact the lives of many.
