McLeod's football career began in high school, where he played for DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. During his senior year in 2007, he recorded 88 tackles, three interceptions, and broke up nine passes. He then went on to play college football at the University of Virginia, where he played for the Virginia Cavaliers from 2008 to 2011.
