Ron Kramer was born in Girard, Kansas, in 1935 and grew up in East Detroit, Michigan. He was a standout athlete in high school, playing three sports and earning All-State honors in football. Kramer decided to attend the University of Michigan, where he played end for the Wolverines from 1954 to 1956. After graduating from Michigan in 1957, Kramer was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the NFL draft. He played for the Packers for six seasons, from 1957 to 1962, and was one of the team's top receivers and blockers during that time. He was named to the Pro Bowl three times and helped the Packers win three NFL championships and the first two Super Bowls.
