Royce Freeman is an American football running back who was born on February 24, 1996, in Brawley, California. He attended Imperial High School in Imperial, California, where he played football as a running back, linebacker, and defensive end. During his high school football career, he rushed for over 7,600 yards and 111 touchdowns, earning him a spot as the top-ranked player in California and the No. 70 player in the nation by Rivals.com.
After graduating from high school, Freeman joined the University of Oregon football team in 2014. He quickly became the team's starting running back and led the Ducks in rushing for four consecutive seasons. During his college football career, Freeman rushed for 5,621 yards and scored 64 touchdowns, breaking the school's record for career rushing yards held by LaMichael James. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 in 2015 and 2017 and was a second-team All-Pac-12 selection in 2016. In his final season with the Ducks, he was also named the MVP of the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl.
After his college football career, Freeman was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he played in all 16 games and rushed for 521 yards and five touchdowns. In 2019, Freeman saw fewer touches and finished with 496 rushing yards and three touchdowns. However, he remains an important part of the Broncos' offensive backfield and is expected to contribute significantly in the upcoming seasons. With impressive performances both in college and the NFL, Freeman has established himself as one of the most promising running backs in American football today.
