Russell Erxleben Autographs
Russell Erxleben was born on January 13, 1957, in Seguin, Texas. He is a former American football player who played as a punter and kicker for the New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). Erxleben is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished kickers in college football, where he played for the University of Texas from 1976 to 1978.
Erxleben set several records while playing for the Longhorns. He was the first kicker in college football history to make three field goals over 60 yards, with his longest being a 67-yard field goal against Rice during his senior year in 1977. Erxleben’s impressive college career led to his being drafted in the first round by the New Orleans Saints in the 1979 NFL Draft. His NFL career spanned from 1979 to 1987, during which he set several records for longest punts and became known for his strong leg and accuracy as a kicker.
Despite his success on the field, Erxleben encountered legal troubles after he retired from football. He served multiple prison sentences for investment fraud, including using his status as a former NFL player to solicit investors for fraudulent investments. Erxleben’s legacy as a football player has been overshadowed by his legal issues, but his incredible kicking ability and records still stand as a testament to his talent on the field.
