Cunningham played a significant role in the Patriots’ victory over the Oakland Raiders in 1976, a game famously referred to as “The Game That Changed Football”. Cunningham rushed for 135 yards and scored four touchdowns in the game, leading the Patriots to a 48-17 victory. His outstanding performance paved the way for increased diversity in American football and brought attention to the need for more Black athletes in the game.
