Sam Bam Autographs
Sam Bam Cunningham, born on August 15, 1950 in Santa Barbara, California, was a renowned American football player who played as a fullback for the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons. He is often considered as one of the greatest players of all time and is known for his outstanding performances for the New England Patriots.
Cunningham went to San Antonio High School and played football under Coach Lou Farrar. He was a two-time All-American selection while playing college football for the University of Southern California (USC). Cunningham was a first-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 1973 NFL Draft. He played for the team for nine years before concluding his career with the San Francisco 49ers in the 1980 season.
Cunningham played a significant role in the Patriots’ victory over the Oakland Raiders in 1976, a game famously referred to as “The Game That Changed Football”. Cunningham rushed for 135 yards and scored four touchdowns in the game, leading the Patriots to a 48-17 victory. His outstanding performance paved the way for increased diversity in American football and brought attention to the need for more Black athletes in the game. Cunningham was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1992 and has since been considered a trailblazer in the sport of American football.
