Sam Darnold is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on June 5, 1997, in Orange County, California, and attended San Clemente High School, where he played as a quarterback for the Tritons. During his senior year, he threw for 3,000 yards and 39 touchdowns, leading his team to an undefeated season and a state championship.
After graduating from high school, Darnold enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC), where he played for the Trojans during his college career. In his first year, he served as a backup quarterback but later took over the starting role in 2017. That season, he threw for 4,143 yards and 26 touchdowns, leading the Trojans to a Pac-12 championship and a Cotton Bowl Classic victory. His impressive performance earned him various accolades, including Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and the Archie Griffin Award.
In 2018, Darnold declared for the NFL Draft and was selected third overall by the New York Jets. He made his NFL debut in Week 1 that year, becoming the youngest starting quarterback in Jets history at the age of 21. Darnold played for the Jets for three seasons before being traded to the Panthers in 2021. Throughout his NFL career, he has demonstrated his talent as a passer and his ability to make plays with his legs. He is considered one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league and is expected to have a bright future in American football.
