Sam Mills Autographs
Sam Mills was an American football player who had an extensive career on the field. Born in 1959 in Texas, Mills played college football at Montclair State University. He was not selected in the 1981 NFL Draft, but he soon signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns. However, Mills was soon cut during training camp, and he then went on to play for the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL in 1982.
Mills eventually returned to the NFL in 1986, signing with the New Orleans Saints as a linebacker. He became a key player on the Saints' defense, earning four Pro Bowl nods and leading the team in tackles for four seasons. Mills also played for the Carolina Panthers from 1995-1997, where he was named a team captain and helped lead the squad to the NFC Championship Game in their second year of existence. Overall, Mills played in a total of 181 NFL games, recording 20 interceptions and 1,319 tackles.
After retiring as a player, Mills became an assistant coach, working for the Panthers and then the Houston Texans. However, Mills' career was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 45. Mills was honored by both the Saints and the Panthers, as they retired his number (51 and 50, respectively) and inducted him into each team's Hall of Fame. Mills' legacy continues to live on, as he is remembered as a beloved player and coach who never gave up and fought until the very end.
