Sean McVay is an American football coach who is currently the head coach of the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on January 24, 1986, in Dayton, Ohio. He is the grandson of John McVay, a former NFL executive and coach, who helped build the San Francisco 49ers dynasty in the 1980s. Sean grew up in a football family, and he developed a passion for the game at a young age. After graduating from Marist School, McVay attended Miami University in Ohio, where he received a scholarship to play football for the RedHawks. He played wide receiver for the team, and he holds the school record with 39 consecutive games with a reception. He also ranks sixth in school history with 2,548 receiving yards and 13th with 159 receptions. While at Miami University, he also served as a student assistant coach under offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery, which marked the beginning of his coaching career.
After graduating from Miami University, McVay began his coaching career in 2008 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he served as an assistant wide receivers coach. He also worked for the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League in 2009, where he served as an assistant offensive assistant. In 2010, he joined the Washington Redskins (now Washington Football team) as an assistant tight ends coach. He worked his way up the coaching ranks and was eventually named the team's offensive coordinator in 2014, at the age of 28, making him the youngest coordinator in modern NFL history.
