Sonny Jurgensen Autographs
Sonny Jurgensen was a professional American football quarterback who played for 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on August 23, 1934, in Wilmington, North Carolina, and attended Duke University where he was a three-sport athlete. After college, Jurgensen was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 1957 NFL Draft. However, he spent most of his first four seasons as a backup quarterback before finally becoming the starter in 1961.
In 1964, Jurgensen had his breakout season, leading the NFL in passing yards, completions, and touchdowns. He was named the league’s most valuable player and helped lead the Eagles to the NFL Championship Game. However, they lost to the Cleveland Browns. In 1965, Jurgensen was traded to the Washington Redskins, where he spent the final 11 seasons of his career. He continued to put up impressive numbers, including passing for over 3,000 yards in five consecutive seasons from 1966 to 1970. Jurgensen retired from football after the 1974 season at the age of 40.
Jurgensen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983. During his career, he threw for over 32,000 yards and 255 touchdowns, and he was known for his accurate arm and ability to read defenses. After retiring from football, Jurgensen continued to stay involved in the sport as a commentator for various networks, including CBS and ABC. Today, Jurgensen is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, and his impact on the game is still felt today.
