Steve Davis Autographs
Steve Davis was a professional baseball player who was born on October 7, 1946, in Wheaton, Illinois. After graduating from Glenbard West High School, he was drafted by the California Angels in the 18th round of the 1968 Major League Baseball draft. He worked his way through the Angels' farm system, and after a few seasons, he was called up to the major leagues in 1973. In his rookie season, Davis pitched in 38 games and recorded 10 saves, which made him one of the best relief pitchers in the American League that year.
Over the next few seasons, Davis established himself as a reliable closer for the Angels, and he was named to the All-Star team in 1975 and 1976. During those years, he saved a total of 57 games and had an ERA of 1.97. In 1977, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, where he played for three seasons. In his first year with the Orioles, he had an incredible season, saving 25 games and earning a 2.45 ERA. That year, he was named to the All-Star team for the third time in his career.
After leaving the Orioles, Davis played for the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers before retiring in 1986. Throughout his career, he recorded a total of 130 saves and posted an ERA of 3.87. Despite his solid career numbers, he is most remembered for his dominant years as a closer in the mid-1970s, when he was one of the most feared relief pitchers in the league. He passed away at the age of 59 in 2006.
