Steve DeBerg is a former American football quarterback, known for his impressive career in the National Football League (NFL) that spanned over two decades. He was born on July 19, 1954, in Oakland, California, and attended high school in Santa Cruz. DeBerg played college football at San Jose State University, where he was the starting quarterback from 1975 to 1977, and broke several passing records.
DeBerg was drafted in the tenth round of the 1977 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys but was later traded to the San Francisco 49ers. He played for several teams during his career, including the Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Atlanta Falcons. He is known for his good performances as a passer, with a strong arm and accurate throws, and his leadership on and off the field. Although he never won a Super Bowl, he led several teams to the playoffs during his career and is remembered as one of the most resilient and hard-working quarterbacks in NFL history.
After retiring from the NFL in 1998, DeBerg worked as a coach and mentor for young quarterbacks.
