Gleason started his professional football career when he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He spent eight seasons with the Saints, and he quickly became a fan favorite due to his electrifying plays and his unwavering commitment to the team. Gleason was a key player in the Saints' historic 2006 season, which saw the team advance to the NFC Championship Game for the first time in franchise history.

However, Gleason's football career was ultimately cut short due to his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In 2011, he was diagnosed with the disease, which gradually robbed him of his ability to walk, talk, and breathe on his own.
