Steve Owens Autographs
Steve Owens was a standout American football player in his college years, playing for the University of Oklahoma Sooners from 1967 to 1969. He played as a running back and was known for his incredible speed, agility, and strength on the field. Owens won the Heisman Trophy in 1969, becoming the first player from Oklahoma to receive this prestigious honor. He was also named the Sporting News Player of the Year and the UPI Back of the Year during the same season.
After college, Owens entered the NFL and signed with the Detroit Lions, where he played from 1970 to 1974. He led the team in rushing yards in each of his first three seasons and was named the NFC Rookie of the Year in 1970. Despite suffering a severe knee injury in 1971, Owens continued to play aggressively, earning the nickname ‘Bulldog’ for his tough playing style. He finished his NFL career with the Lions, but was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame as well as the College Football Hall of Fame for his impressive performances during his time as a football player.
Off the field, Owens was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to the sport. He earned a degree in physical education from the University of Oklahoma and went on to coach football at several high schools in Oklahoma. Owens also served as a football analyst for various media outlets, including ESPN and ABC. Today, he is remembered as one of the greatest football players to come out of Oklahoma and continues to inspire aspiring athletes with his incredible legacy.
