Stump Mitchell is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine years. He was born on February 14, 1959, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He attended The Citadel, where he played college football and set several records. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the ninth round of the 1981 NFL Draft and spent his entire professional career with the team, which later became the Arizona Cardinals. Mitchell was a versatile player who could run, receive and return kicks. He was known for his speed, quickness, and agility, which allowed him to break through defensive lines and evade defenders. During his time with the Cardinals, he amassed 4,649 rushing yards, scored 32 touchdowns, and caught 148 passes for 1,143 yards. He also returned 125 kickoffs for 3,049 yards and two touchdowns.
