Takeo Gerard Spikes was an American football player who played as a linebacker with distinction at the highest level for several NFL teams. Born on December 17, 1976 in Augusta, Georgia, Spikes attended Auburn University where he played college football for the Auburn Tigers. He was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 1998 and earned All-American honors in his senior year. Spikes was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft and quickly established himself as one of the most dominant linebackers in the game. More about Takeo Spikes

Spikes played 15 seasons in the NFL for five different teams, including the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, and the Kansas City Chiefs. During his career, he was named to two Pro Bowls and was twice named first-team All-Pro. He was known for his physical style of play, as well as his ability to make big plays at crucial moments. In 2015, Spikes announced his retirement from professional football, having played in 219 games, notched 1,406 tackles, and 29 sacks during his storied career.

Off the field, Spikes has been an active philanthropist, founding the Takeo Spikes Foundation, which supports and encourages the athletic pursuits of underprivileged youth. He has also worked as a media analyst and commentator, providing insight and analysis on the NFL and college football. Despite his retirement from professional football, Spikes remains one of the most respected and beloved players in the game, and his legacy as a fierce competitor who played the game with integrity and passion will continue to inspire players and fans alike for generations to come.
