Tim Irwin was born on June 5, 1958, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is a former American football offensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons. Irwin attended Knoxville Catholic High School and then played college football at the University of Tennessee. In 1981, he was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round, and that was the start of an illustrious career in the NFL.
Irwin played for the Minnesota Vikings from 1981 to 1993 and then played a year for the Miami Dolphins. He was known throughout the league for his size and toughness, standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 305 pounds. Irwin was selected to the Pro Bowl twice during his career and was widely regarded as one of the best offensive tackles in the game. In 1993, he was inducted into the University of Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame, and in 2020, he was named to the Knoxville Catholic High School Athletics Hall of Fame.
After retiring from football, Irwin has remained involved in the game, serving as an offensive line coach for various high schools and colleges. He is currently the Head Football Coach at Knoxville Catholic High School, where he once played, and has led the team to multiple state championships. Irwin's achievements on the field and his dedication to the sport have made him a legend in Tennessee football circles, and his impact on the game continues to be felt to this day.
