After a few years playing in the NFL, Bowles transitioned to coaching, starting as an assistant coach for Morehouse College in Atlanta. He then moved on to become the defensive coordinator for various NFL teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Arizona Cardinals. Throughout his coaching career, Bowles has been praised for his ability to develop and mentor young players, as well as his exceptional defensive schemes.

In 2015, Todd Bowles was named head coach of the New York Jets. During his four-year tenure, he led his team to a 26-41 record and a playoff berth during the 2015 season. Bowles was praised for his work off the field as well, as he was an advocate for various social justice movements and worked to improve community relations between the Jets and surrounding neighborhoods.
