Tom Cousineau Autographs
Tom Cousineau was an American football linebacker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons from 1979 to 1984. He was born on May 6, 1957, in Fairview Park, Ohio, and attended the University of Ohio State where he played collegiate football. Cousineau holds the record for the most tackles in Ohio State history, with 569 total tackles. In 1979, Cousineau was the first overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, where he debuted as a rookie and recorded 146 tackles, and followed that up with 181 tackles in 1980.
Cousineau is best known for his productive career with the Cleveland Browns, where he played from 1982 to 1984. In his first season with the Browns, Cousineau posted a career-high of 211 tackles, which remained as a single-season record until 2018. He was also a team captain in each of his three seasons in Cleveland and was named to the NFL Pro Bowl twice. Cousineau's tackling prowess and leadership skills made him a fan favorite in Cleveland and earned him the nickname "Tommy Gun."
Cousineau retired from professional football in 1985 due to a leg injury. However, the legacy he left in the sport as one of the best linebackers in his time remains undeniable. In addition to his NFL Pro Bowl honors, Cousineau was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity "O" Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Today, Cousineau speaks at public events and works as a business consultant. His impact on American football is easily noticeable, and his passion for the sport lives on in all who watched him play.
