Tommy Mason Autographs
Tommy Mason was a professional American football player born on July 8, 1939, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University, where he played for the LSU Tigers football team from 1957 to 1959. Tommy was known as one of the top running backs of his time and was a consensus All-American in his senior year. After completing his college career, he was drafted first overall in the 1961 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, then a new expansion team in the league.
In his rookie season, Tommy Mason made an immediate impact in NFL, leading his team in rushing yards, receiving yards, and touchdowns. His performance earned him the inaugural NFL Rookie of the Year Award, and he also became the first Vikings player to be selected for the Pro Bowl. During his nine seasons with the team, Mason made three Pro Bowl appearances, rushed over 4000 yards, and scored 35 touchdowns. He played a vital role in helping the Vikings become a competitive franchise and transforming them into a well-known team in the league.
After retiring from football, Tommy Mason became a successful businessman and remained active in the sports world. In 1998, he was inducted into the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2019, he was selected for the Vikings Ring of Honor, recognizing his contribution to the team's success. Mason passed away on January 22, 2015, at the age of 75, but his legacy lives on as one of the most iconic football players of his generation.
