Toni Fritsch Autographs
Toni Fritsch was an Austrian-American football kicker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons, from 1971 to 1980. Fritsch was born in Bruck an der Mur, Austria, in 1945, and played soccer as a youth. He was introduced to American football while serving in the United States Air Force, stationed in Texas. Fritsch became a standout kicker and punter at the University of Arizona, and was drafted by the NFL's Dallas Cowboys in 1971.
Fritsch played for the Cowboys for four seasons, from 1971 to 1974, and earned a reputation as one of the league's most accurate and powerful kickers. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1972 and 1974, and helped the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI in 1972. Fritsch then joined the Houston Oilers for six seasons, from 1975 to 1980. He continued to excel as a kicker, and was again selected to the Pro Bowl in 1978. Fritsch retired from the NFL in 1981 with 771 career points, and his 77.3% field goal percentage was among the best in league history at the time.
After retiring from football, Fritsch became a successful businessman in Texas, owning several restaurants and a sports bar. He also continued to be involved in football as a commentator and analyst for local radio and television broadcasts. Fritsch was inducted into the Austrian Sports Hall of Fame in 2008, and passed away in 2005 at the age of 60. He remains one of the most successful European players in NFL history, and helped to popularize the sport in his home country of Austria.
