Troy Drayton is a former American football player who rose to prominence in the NFL as a tight end. He was born on February 21, 1970, in Gary, Indiana, and attended Penn State University, where he was a standout player in college football. Drayton was a versatile athlete who excelled in different positions on the field, including tight end, offensive tackle, and defensive end. He was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions and helped the team win three consecutive bowl games.
Drayton's professional football career began in 1993 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round. He spent four seasons with the Rams, during which he played in 57 games and caught 91 passes for 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns. In 1997, Drayton signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent and had the best year of his career in 1998, catching 44 passes for 485 yards and seven touchdowns. He played for the Dolphins for four seasons and was widely regarded as one of the best blocking tight ends in the league. Drayton's last NFL season was in 2002 when he played for the Kansas City Chiefs. He retired from professional football in 2003 after a nine-year career.
After retiring from football, Drayton became involved in coaching and worked as a tight ends coach for various college and NFL teams. He was the tight ends coach for the Miami Hurricanes from 2011 to 2012 and the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, he was hired as the head coach of the Southern California Seahorses, a team in the National Arena League. Drayton's legacy in the NFL is that of a hardworking and versatile player who was an excellent blocker and a reliable receiver. His contributions to the sport and his commitment to mentoring young players have made him a respected figure in football circles.
