Bass played for Georgia Southern from 2016 to 2019, where he set numerous records, including the most career points by a kicker in school history. He finished his college career as the all-time leading scorer in Georgia Southern history with 338 points. In his senior year, Bass was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, and he was also a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, given to the top collegiate kicker in the nation.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected Tyler Bass in the sixth round. Throughout his rookie season, Bass was the starting kicker for the Bills, and he had a successful year. He finished the season with the second-most field goals made in the league, and he was a key contributor to the Bills' playoff run.
