Vaughan Johnson Autographs
Vaughan Johnson was an American football linebacker who played for the New Orleans Saints and the San Diego Chargers over the course of his 9-year NFL career. Born on March 24, 1962, in Morehead City, North Carolina, Johnson began his football journey at North Carolina State University where he played for the Wolfpack from 1982 to 1984. He was a decorated player and team captain during his senior year and was subsequently drafted in the first round of the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft by the Saints.
Johnson quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the NFL during his time in New Orleans. Along with fellow linebackers Sam Mills and Pat Swilling, he formed one of the most fearsome linebacker corps in the league, earning the nickname the "Dome Patrol". Johnson was a four-time Pro Bowler during his career with the Saints and was voted first-team All-Pro in 1991. In 2011, he was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greats in team history.
After his time with the Saints, Johnson joined the San Diego Chargers for his final two seasons in the NFL. He played his last game in 1995, finishing his career with 664 tackles, 12 sacks, and 6 interceptions. After retirement, he moved back to his hometown of Morehead City where he served as the head football coach for West Carteret High School from 1999 to 2004 before transitioning to a career in insurance. Johnson's impact on the game of football is still felt today, and he will always be remembered as a legendary linebacker for the New Orleans Saints.
