Walter Abercrombie Autographs
Walter Abercrombie was a former American football player best known for his exceptional performance in college football and his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was born on September 1, 1959, in Waco, Texas, and attended Baylor University, where he played as a running back for the Baylor Bears football team from 1978-1981. During his college career, Abercrombie became the all-time leading rusher for Baylor University, setting a record of 3,665 yards.
After his successful college career, Abercrombie was selected in the first round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spent seven seasons with the Steelers and played in 89 games, rushing for 3,119 yards on 814 carries and 12 touchdowns. He made his mark in the league with his speed and agility, which enabled him to evade defenders and make big plays. Abercrombie was known for his versatility, and he played a vital role in the Steelers' offense, which helped them reach the playoffs four times during his time with the team.
In 1987, Abercrombie left the Steelers to join the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played for two seasons before retiring from professional football. His impressive football career was recognized by the Baylor University, which inducted him into the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame in 1993. Abercrombie continues to be involved in football as a broadcaster and commentator for several media outlets, including ESPN and the Houston Texans Radio Network.
